Fall is a special time for families and that is why Starr Homeplace is inviting families, especially with young children, to visit on Saturday for the last Community Day of the year.
Lunch is served for a donation, however picnic baskets and blankets are welcome.
The plantation has many museums on the property, and is always adding more exhibits to see and use.
”Yes, ‘use,’” said owner Joe Rolfe, who lives on the property. “We have a working wood shop that has wood and tools and a blacksmith is showing the kids how to make usable items. The blacksmith also allows the kids to try their hand at the trade of blacksmithing.”
An old fashioned dairy barn, outhouse, quilting frame, print shop and the unusual wooden puzzles all have charm of the olden ways. In the barn are vintage farm equipment, porch swings and benches. Artists and craftsmen are welcome to set up in the barn to work and sell their items.
“Part of the reason Starr Homeplace was developed was to focus on a place for the creative arts community to come and use, to have a peaceful work place to on fold their imagination, said Rolfe.
